Our Llewellin Setters

FDSB Registered, DNA Verified
What is the FDSB?
FDSB is short for the Field Dog Stud Book which is owned and managed by the American Field Sporting Dog Association which was recently bought by United Kennel Club. The FDSB is the first and oldest pet registry's to be established in the US. All Llewellin Setters must be registered in FDSB as they are the first registry that registers and regulates the breeding of the Llewellin Setters. Pertinent to other registry rules, the FDSB registration qualifies the Llewellin in other pet registries (such as the AKC) as well.
Why is DNA verification needed? What does it mean?
By FDSB guidelines, both male and female FDSB registered Llewellin Setter parents must be DNA verified before breeding in order to register puppies under the FDSB as Llewellin Setters. In continuation, if any of these FDSB registered pups are to be used for breeding they must also be DNA verified in order to register their pups. And so the cycle continues, in order to preserve the purity of the Llewellin Setter.
Why FDSB over AKC or IPDBA registration?
FDSB provides stricter guidelines for preserving the historical bloodlines of the Llewellin Setters. Under the AKC, Llewellins are considered only a strain under the more common English Setter in which Llewellin Setter lines need not be present, and thus FDSB registration is the only true registration wanted for Llewellin Setters. In order for the Llewellin English Setter to gain the title of "Llewellin Setter", it must have came from a specific Llewellin blood line. Both breeding parents must be registered in the FDSB, DNA verified, and both parents must trace back to 3 specific Llewellin Setters (Duke, Rhoebe, and Kate) from the UK of the mid-late 1800s. This interprets to over 140 years of a historical accounts and significance and a closely regulated/guarded breeding and bloodline from a specific strain of English Setters known only as the Llewellin Setter.

Setters Point Asa
"Asa"
Our favorite male Llewellin Setter that we have ever had; Asa shows natural pointing and backing ability. He is a pleasure to hunt with; consistently gauging the terrain and coverage with other dogs to assess where he is needed most. He is of larger stature like his Lynnhill ancestors and siblings, with a longer haired coat. He has an extremely relaxed personality in the house and has never once displayed any of the typical intact male misbehaviors. He has the strongest need to please and his favorite evening activity is curling up on the footstool between our legs for some relaxation before bedtime. He is currently retired.

Setters Point Annabel
"Annie"
Annie is our original breeding female who has provided multiple excellent litters of puppies. She has had the least amount of time in the field due to breeding, but picked up her job and hunting skills with awe-striking ease and grace. On just her first ever hunt, she showed incredible natural abilities; backing and working intensely while staying in range. Unlike some of her ancestors, she has more of a compact and petite size to her with a slick, super smooth, and soft coat. She is extremely agile; able to jump 4 ft into the air from a standstill. Her agility and small frame suit her very well for moving through and covering thick brush. She is now currently retired from breeding and enjoys her hunting years now.

Setters Point Beau
"Beau"
Beau is our up and coming main stud out of our own Setter's Point Asa and Setter's Point Annie. He is of a larger stature and takes after "Asa's" personality as well. He is laid back and a cuddle bug in the house. At a young age, he shows exceptional, innate drive. His very first contact with live birds, he was pointing consistently and steadily and showed no aversion to gunfire. He also retrieved without any training. His coat is a nice mix of the two parents', with length, yet soft as can be with an incredible tail.

Setters Point Kimber
"Kimber"
Kimber is out of Asa and Annie. She currently lives in Kansas with Bri and enjoys quail hunting and pheasant hunts out west or up in South Dakota. Her companion is a chocolate lab that is a fine duck and bird dog himself. She has truly become an excellent bird dog this last season. She has one of the most laid back personalities for her young age. As Holly puts it, "she is an old soul in a young body". She is a medium size weighing at an average of 35 lbs and has a nice medium length, soft and wavy coat. She has an excellent nose on her and a solid steady point past gunshot. She has shown some retrieving potential as well as not afraid to pin down those tough old roosters if your shot isn't quite enough.

Jornada Dolly Sods
"Dolly"
Dolly is our small, intelligent 40lb tri color female who is bird crazy and a bit of a clown. She is very light on her feet, well-natured and very steady on birds. She enjoys chewing on her toys and parading them around the room to show them off. She has had three litters and is currently enjoying a year off to focus on hunting!

Setters Point Chili Pepper
"Pepper"
Pepper is our tall, lanky speed demon who loves running and retrieving birds. In the house she enjoys stalking and pouncing on her fellow housemates. She is a darker tri-color female who weighs in at 42lbs. She is excellent in the field and had her first litter last year like a professional mother. We hope to breed her this year again.

Setters Point Gracie
"Gracie"
Gracie and Gunner are our two newest additions. They are both busy bodies and can be a handful, but are a crack up and love their birds. Gracie prefers to be in the house cuddled up on the couch next to you or playing with housemates. She has shown very good potential in the field and innate instinct. Her training is currently still ongoing, but we hope to breed her soon in the next year or two.
